Polished Concrete

On Point Grinding specialises in the industry leading Hiperfloor polished concrete system to transform concrete into a superior seamless flooring option. Using this system we grind, harden and mechanically polish, before applying a penetrating (rather than topical) sealer.

What is polished concrete?

Polished concrete is fast becoming the ultimate go to no-wax flooring material. With the proper floor grinding equipment and experience, concrete polishing contractors can grind concrete surfaces, whether new or old, to a high-gloss finish that never needs waxes or coatings. Factor in the superior durability and performance of concrete, and it’s no wonder why more retail, commercial warehouse and office facilities, and even homeowners are catching on to the appeal of these smooth, high-luster floors.

Polished Concreting FAQ

Are concrete floors a good idea?
Polished concrete is very durable resulting in it being difficult to damage. Concerns you may have with other floor types including pets, furniture and certain types of shoes are not things you need to worry about with concrete. It’s nearly impossible to damage the floors with everyday use.
How long does polished concrete last?
Polished concrete that is properly installed and sealed can last an awful long time, even up to hundreds of years if maintained well. It will last longer than any other type of floor coverings including tiles, floor boards or laminate surfaces.
Can any concrete be polished?
As long as a concrete floor is structurally sound it can be polished. Things that may prevent us from recommending polishing an existing concrete slab include it being extremely porous or require a large amount of patching.
How thick does a polished concrete floor need to be?
The actual thickness of a concrete floor can vary and it is best for a contractor to have a look at the site and make a recommendation. At a minimum it will need to be 20mm – 40mm thick as an absolute minimum, but usually thicker.
Is polished concrete colder than tiles?
Although we traditionally think of concrete as a cold material is has the ability to absorb heat, store it and slowly release it in a way tiles can’t. Due to the thermal mass drawing it’s temperature from the ground rather than outside it is usually warmer than tiles in winter and cooler in summer.
Can you do polished concrete in bathrooms?
As a non waxy floor material polished concrete is a great option for bathroom floors.
Is polished concrete slippery?
Just like tiles or floorboards, concrete can be slippery when wet. But dry, it is not considered any more slippery than any other surface.
What is the difference between polished concrete and epoxy?
Polished concrete is an environmentally friendly option for flooring involves breaking down the top layer of concrete and grinding it to a polished surface. On the other hand epoxy is a seal applied to the top of a concrete slab.
